TUTORIAL: Clothing Seams in Zbrush

I have created some alpha textures for my character project. These are all clothing and fabric seams. The last one is a mod of the alpha in the Stitch1 brush available in LightBox.

You may use all these alphas for your own projects, either personal or commercial use.

How to use:

Step 1.
Select standard brush and set stroke type to Dots. (Or you can choose the Stitch1 brush from LightBox, which has some stroke settings modified already)

Step 2.

Load the alphas in Zbrush alpha palette. If you are using one of the alphas I created, go to Alpha>Modify>MidValue and set the spinner to 50. This makes the displacing correct. If you are using the alpha I modified, set the MidValue to 20.

Step 3.

Then you have to set the stroke options. Go to the Stroke menu. In the first window enable roll and set roll distance to 1 and leave mouse avg at 4. In the next window enable LazyMouse and Relative. Set lazy step to 0.1, LazySmooth to 4 and crank the LazyRadius to 30. You can also play around with these settings to get different effects.

Now you are good to go!

Step 4. (Tablet)
If you are using a tablet and don’t want the pen pressure to resize your seam or vary the Zintensity as you draw; Go to Preferences>Tablet and set both the Size Sensitivity and the Z Sensitivity to 0. Now the scale is locked to your Draw Size and the depth is fully controlled by the Z intensity.

Happy sculpting!
